Vision

The main targets of the process control system HYDRA are the real-time data collection, the visualisation of crucial parameters and the analysis of TBM related data. Results of analyses such as structural design, settlement assessment or face stability calculation can also be integrated into the system and then be correlated with the measurements from the TBM.

Further development objectives are:

  • Integration of the software systems SOFIA (Control of compensation grouting) and HYDRA in order to optimize the process control of tunnelling projects within urban environment.
  • Incorporation of results from design analysis into the data base. This enables correlation between the different data sets, for example between tail void grouting pressure and lining deformation.
  • Development of the data base system into a general knowledge based tool to provide the TBM crew with all relevant information required for the day-to-day decision making on the construction site.
  • Process control systems are frequently used in industries such as chemical engineering and car manufacturing. However, for the construction industry such systems are not commonly in use yet. It is our believe, that process control systems such as HYDRA are vital for efficiently managing a tunnel construction site.
